Bride to be
Dakota and I met through a friend at my University during the summer and we hit it off instantly! He played baseball at another school so for the first 3 years of our relationship we were long distance and I made a point to drive the hour and a half to him often to watch him play. In a way it was a blessing we started off long distance because we knew if we could conquer that, we could handle anything!
We are getting married in November of 2020 a bit outside of Houston, Texas (my home town).
What advice do you have for someone who just got engaged?
Be careful not to ask for too many opinions from everyone or take any opinions too seriously. I care a lot about what other people think, so in this process I’m trying to for once not ask for others opinions and just do what is important for Dakota and I and choose the things that WE like - despite what others may think.
How you stay organized during this process?
I have a wedding planner I got from Barnes and Noble with a gift card I had lying around! It’s a simplified version of The Knot but it gets the job done:). I also have a folder where I keep all invoices and contracts and keep things locked in on my planner.
Any tips for finding the right dress?
Be open minded! I tried on everything even if I thought and even knew I wouldn’t like it. You never know what you’ll find! Just because it wasn’t your original Pinterest board vision that doesn’t mean it’s not the right dress for you.
I also kept my venue in mind which is more rustic and vintage. So for that reason ballroom wouldn’t quite fit in with the space. Along with this I would also bear in mind the time of year and weather of course.
Anything you would do differently or found helpful?
Nothing yet since it’s early in the process, but I love that we have a long engagement (a year and a half). Other people think we’re crazy but it’s given me plenty of time to plan without stressing and just enjoy our time. After all we will only be able to call each other our fiancés at this point in our lives and that’s so special!
